(B) 11 days

(C) 12 days

(D) 14 days

Ans: C

∴ Amit alone can plough the field in 12 days.

Question: 7

A can complete a certain work in 4 minutes, B in 5 minutes, C in 6 minutes, D in 10 minutes and E in 12 minutes. The average number of units of work completed by them per minute will be

(A) 0.40

(B) 0.16

(C) 0.80

(D) 1.20

Ans: B

Required average = $$({1}/{4} + {1}/{5} + {1}/{6} + {1}/{10} + {1}/{12}) / 5$$ = $$({48} / {60} × {1} / {5})$$ = $${4} / {25}$$ = 0.16.

Question: 8

A man can do a job in 15 days. His father takes 20 days and his son finishes it in 25 days. How long will they take to complete the job if they all work together?

(A) Exactly 6 days

(B) Less than 6 days

(C) More than 10 days

(D) Approximately 6.4 days

Ans: D

1 day’s work of the three persons = $$({1}/{15} + {1}/{20} + {1}/{25})$$ = $$47/300$$.

So, all the three together will complete the work in $$300 / 47$$ = 6.4 days.

Question: 9

A conveyor belt delivers babbage at the rate of 3 tons in 5 minutes and a second conveyor belt delivers babbage at the rate of 1 ton in 2 minutes. How much time will it take to get 33 tons of babbage delivered using both the conveyor belts together?

(A) 25 min

(B) 25 min 30 sec

(C) 30 min

(D) 40 min

Ans: C

Babbage delivered by first belt in 1 min = $$({3} / {5})$$tons.

Babbage delivered by second belt in 1 min = $$({1} / {2})$$ton.

Babbage delivered by both belts in 1 min = $$({3} / {5} + {1} / {2})$$ton = $${11} / {10}$$tons.

∴ Required time = (33 ÷ $${11} / {10})$$min = $${33 × 10} /{11}$$min = 30 min.

Question: 10

The daily wages of a worker are Rs. 100. Five workers can do a work in 10 days. If you pay Rs. 20 more daily, they agree to do 25% more work daily. If the proposal is accepted, then the total amount that could be saved is

(A) Rs. 100

(B) Rs. 200

(C) Rs. 300

(D) Rs. 600

Ans: B

5 worker’s 1 day’s work = $${1}/{10}$$.

5 workers 1 days work on increasing wages

= 125% of $${1}/{10}$$ = $$({125} / {100} × {1} / {10})$$ = $${1} / {8}$$.

So, now the work is done in 8 days.

Original wage bill = Rs. (100 × 5 × 10) = Rs. 5000.

New wage bill = Rs. (120 × 5 × 8) = Rs. 4800.

∴ Amount saved = Rs. (5000 - 4800) = Rs. 200.
