Question: 1

A, B and C jointly thought of engaging themselves in a business venture. It was agreed that A would invest Rs.6500 for 6 months, B Rs.8400 for 5 months and C, Rs.10,000 for 3 months. A wants to be the working member for which he was to receives 5% of the profits. The profit earned was Rs.7400. Calculate the share of B in the profit

(A) Rs.1800

(B) Rs.1900

(C) Rs.2660

(D) Rs.2840

Ans: C

For managing, A receives = 5% of Rs.7400 = Rs.370.

Balance = Rs. (7400 - 370) = Rs.7030.

Ratio of their investments = (6500 × 6) : (8400 × 5) : (10000 × 3)

= 39000 : 42000 : 30000 = 13 : 14 : 10.

∴ B’s share = Rs. $$(7030 × {14}/{37})$$ = Rs.2660.

Question: 2

If 4 (A’s capital) = 6 (B’s capital) = 10 (C’s capital), then out of a profit or Rs. 4650, C will receive

(A) Rs.465

(B) Rs.700

(C) Rs.900

(D) Rs.1550

Ans: C

Let 4A = 6B = 10C = k.

Then, A = $${k}/{4}$$, B = $${k}/{6}$$ and C = $${k}/{10}$$.

∴ A :B : C = $${k}/{4} : {k}/{6} : {k}/{10}$$ = 15 : 10 : 6.

Hence, C’ share = Rs. $$(4650 × { 6}/{31})$$ = Rs. 900.

Question: 3

Two friends invested Rs.1500 and Rs.2500 in a business. They earned a profit of Rs.800. One half of the profit was divided equally between them and the other half was divided in proportion to their capitals. How much did each of them receive?

(A) Rs.300 and Rs.450

(B) Rs.350 and Rs.450

(C) Rs.360 and Rs.440

(D) Rs.370 and Rs.430

Ans: B

Ratio of shares = 1500 : 2500 = 3 : 5.

Share of first friend = Rs. $$[{400}/{2} + (400 × {3}/{8})]$$

= Rs. (200 + 150) = Rs.350.

Share of second friend = Rs. $$[{400}/{2} + (400 × {5}/{8})]$$

= Rs. (200 + 250) = Rs.450.

Question: 4

Shekhar started a business investing Rs.25000 in 2009. In 2010, he invested an additional amount of Rs.10000 and Rajeev joined him with an amount of Rs.35000. In 2011, Shekhar invested another additional amount of Rs.10000 and Jain joined them with an amount of Rs.35000. What will be Rajeev’s share in the profit of Rs.150000 earned at the end of 3 years from the start of the business in 2009?

(A) Rs.45000

(B) Rs.46000

(C) Rs.50000

(D) Rs.70000

Ans: C

Shekhar : Rajeev : Jatin

= (25000 × 12 + 35000 × 12 + 45000 × 12) : (35000 × 24) : (35000 × 12)

= 1260000 : 840000 : 420000 = 3 : 2 : 1.

∴ Rajeev’s share = Rs. $$(150000 × {2}/ {6})$$ = Rs.50000.

Question: 5

A, B and C are three partners. They altogether invested Rs.14000 in business. At the end of the year, A got Rs.337.50, B Rs.1125 and C Rs.637.50 as profit. The difference between the investment of B and A was

(A) Rs.2200

(B) Rs.3200

(C) Rs.5250

(D) Rs.6250

Ans: C

Ratio of investments of A, B and C

= Ratio of their profits = 337.50 : 1125 : 637.50 = 9 : 30 : 17.

∴ A’s investment = Rs. $$(14000 × {9}/{56})$$ = Rs. 2250.

B’s investment = Rs. $$(14000 × {30}/{56})$$ = Rs. 7500.

Hence, required difference = Rs. (7500 - 2250) = Rs. 5250.
