Banker's Discount Questions for Bank PO, SO, Clerk Exams Pdf - 1

Question: 1

The banker’s discount and the true discount on a sum of money due 8 months hence are Rs.120 and Rs.110 respectively. Find the sum and the rate percent.

(A) $$13{7}/{11}$$%

(B) $$18{2}/{9}$$%

(C) $$18{5}/{11}$$%

(D) $$19{7}/{11}$$%

Ans: A

Sum = $$({B.D × T.D.} / {B.D - T.D})$$

= Rs. $$({120 × 110} / {120 - 110})$$ = Rs. 1320.

Since B.D. is S.I. on sum due,
So S.I. on Rs. 1320 for 8 months is Rs. 120.

∴ Rate = $$({100 × 120} / {1320 × {2}/{3}})$$ = $$13{7}/{11}$$%.

Question: 2

The banker’s discount on a bill due 4 months hence a 15% is Rs.420. The true discount is

(A) Rs. 320

(B) Rs. 360

(C) Rs. 400

(D) Rs. 480

Ans: C

T.D. = $${B.D × 100} / {100 + (R × T)}$$

= $${420 × 100} / {100 + (15× {1}/{3})$$

= Rs. $$({420 × 100} / {105})$$ = Rs. 400.

Question: 3

The banker’s discount and the true discount on a sum of money due 6 months hence are Rs.130 and Rs.120 respectively. Find the sum and the rate percent.

(A) $$16{2}/{3}$$%

(B) $$17{2}/{3}$$%

(C) $$18{2}/{3}$$%

(D) $$19{2}/{3}$$%

Ans: A

Sum = $${B. D × T.D.} /{B.D - T.D.}$$ = $$({130 × 120} / {130 - 120})$$ = $${130 × 120} / {10}$$ = Rs. 1560.

But Banker’s discount = S.I. on sum due.

∴ S.I. on Rs.1320 for 6 months = 130.

∴ Rate = $${100 × 130} / {1560 × {1}/{2}$$% = $${100}/{6}$$% = $$16{2}/{3}$$%.

Question: 4

The banker’s discount on Rs.1650 due a certain time hence is Rs.165. Find the true discount and the banker’s gain.

(A) Rs. 150

(B) Rs. 160

(C) Rs. 170

(D) Rs. 180

Ans: A

Sum = $${B.D × T.D.} / {B.D. - T.D.}$$ = $${B.D. × T.D.}/{B.G.}$$

∴ $${T.D.}/{B.G.}$$ = $${Sum} / {B.D.}$$ = $${1650} / {165}$$ = $${10}/{1}$$

Thus, if B.G. is Re 1, T.D. = Rs. 10.

If B.D. is Rs. 11, T.D. = Rs. 10.

If B.D. is Rs. 165,

T.D. = Rs. $$({10}/{11} × 165)$$ = Rs. 150.

Question: 5

The present worth of a sum due sometime hence is Rs.576 and the banker’s gain is Rs.16. The true discount is

(A) Rs. 36

(B) Rs. 48

(C) Rs. 72

(D) Rs. 96

Ans: D

T.D. = $$√ {P.W.} ×{B.G.}$$ = $$√{576} × {16}$$ = 96.
