1000+ Problems on Numbers Questions and Answers Pdf - 1

Question: 1

A two digit number exceeds the sum of the digits of that number by 18. If the digit at the unit’s place is double the digit in the ten’s place, what is the number?

(A) 12

(B) 24

(C) 36

(D) 48

Ans: B

Let the ten’s digit be x.

Then, unit’s digit = 2x.

Number = 10x + 2x = 12x;

Sum of digits = x + 2x = 3x.

∴ 12x - 3x = 18

⇔ 9x = 18

⇔ x = 2.

Hence, required number = 12x = 24.

Question: 2

The difference between a two digit number and the number obtained by interchanging the two digits is 63. Which is the smaller of the two numbers?

(A) 7

(B) 14

(C) 29

(D) 72

Ans: A

Let the ten’s digit be x and unit’s digit be y.

Then, (10x + y) - (10y + x) = 63

⇔ 9(x - y) = 63

⇔ x - y = 7.

Question: 3

In a number of three digits, the digits in the unit’s place and in the hundred’s place are equal and the sum of all the digits is 8. The number of such numbers is

(A) 2

(B) 3

(C) 4

(D) 5

Ans: C

Clearly, there are 4 such numbers: 161, 242, 323 and 404.

Question: 4

Of the three numbers, the sum of the first two is 73; the sum of the second and the third is 77 and the sum of the third and thrice the first is 104. The third number is

(A) 25

(B) 29

(C) 40

(D) 60

Ans: B

Let the number be x, y and z.

Then, x + y = 73, y + z = 77 and 3x + z = 104.

∴ y = 73 - x, z = 77 - y = 77 - (73 - x) = 4 + x.

∴ 3x + 4 + x = 104

⇔ 4x = 100 ⇔ x = 25.

y = (73 - 25) = 48 and z = (4 + 25) = 29.

∴ Third number = 29.

Question: 5

A number is as much greater than 36 as is less than 86. Find the number.

(A) 51

(B) 61

(C) 71

(D) 81

Ans: B

Let the number be x.

Then, x - 36 = 86 - x

⇒ 2x = 86 + 36 = 122 ⇒ x = 61.

Hence, the required number is 61.
