Question: 6

A man bought apples at the rate of 8 for Rs.34 and sold them at the rate of 12 for Rs.57. How many apples should be sold to earn a net profit of Rs.45?

(A) 70

(B) 90

(C) 100

(D) 135

Ans: B

C.P. of 1 apple = Rs. $$({34}/{8})$$ = Rs. 4.25

S.P. of 1 apple = Rs. $$({57}/{12})$$ = Rs. 4.75

Profit on each apple = Rs. 0.50.

∴ Number of apples required = $$({45}/{0.50})$$ = 90.

Question: 7

Ronit and Vinit purchased a scooter for Rs. 25000 and sold the same for Rs.26250. If at the time of purchase Ronit paid $$1{1}/{2}$$ times as much as Vinit, how much did Vinit receive out of profit?

(A) Rs. 400

(B) Rs. 500

(C) Rs. 600

(D) Rs. 700

Ans: B

Ratio of profit = Ratio of investments = $${3} / {2}$$ : 1 = 3 : 2.

Profit = Rs. (26250 - 25000) = Rs. 1250.

∴ Vinit’s share = Rs. $$({2} / {5} × 1250)$$ = Rs. 500.

Question: 8

A fruit seller buts lemons at 2 for a rupee and sells them at 5 for three rupees. His profit percent is

(A) 10

(B) 15

(C) 20

(D) 25

Ans: C

Suppose number of lemons bought = L.C.M. of 2 and 5 = 10.

C.P. of 10 lemons = Rs. $$({1}/{2} × 10)$$ = Rs. 5.

S.P. of 10 lemons = Rs. $$({3}/{5} × 10)$$ = Rs. 6.

∴ Profit% = $$({1}/{5} × 100)$$% = 20%.

Question: 9

A milkman cheats his customer in two ways. He mixes 10% water in pure milk and increases the price of milk by 10%. He purchases 20 kg pure milk at a rate of Rs.15 per kg. His total profit by selling it is

(A) Rs. 40

(B) Rs. 50

(C) Rs. 60

(D) Rs. 63

Ans: D

C.P. of 20 kg milk = Rs. (20 × 15) = Rs. 300.

Quantity of water added = 10% of 20 kg = 2 kg.

S.P. of 1 kg mixture = 110% of 15 = Rs. 16.50.

S.P. of 22 kg mixture = Rs. (22 × 16.50) = Rs. 363.

∴ Profit = Rs. (363 - 300) = Rs. 63.

Question: 10

A T-shirt bought for Rs.50 is marked at 8 percent profit and then sold at a percent sales discount on marked price. What is the selling price of the T-shirt?

(A) Rs. 48

(B) Rs. 48.60

(C) Rs. 50

(D) Rs. 52

Ans: B

C.P. = Rs. 50.

M.P = 108% of 50 = Rs. $$({108}/{100} × 50)$$ = Rs. 54.

Discount = 10% of Rs. 54 = Rs. 5.40.

∴ S.P. = Rs. (54 - 5.40) = Rs. 48.60.
