Speed of the train = \$\$(30 × {5}/{18})\$\$m/sec = \$\$({25}/{3})\$\$m/sec.

Distance moved in passing the standing man = 100 m.

A train running at a speed of 90 km/hr crosses a platform double its length in 36 seconds. What is the length of the platform in metres?

Let the length of the train be x metres.

Then, length of the platform = (2x) metres.

Speed of the train = \$\$(90 × {5}/{18})\$\$ m/sec = 25 m/sec.

∴ \$\${x + 2x} /{25}\$\$ = 36 ⇔ 3x = 900 ⇔ x = 300.

Hence, length of platform = 2x = (2 × 300) m = 600 m.

A 120 metre long train is running at a speed of 90 km/hr. It will cross a railway platform 230 m long in

Speed = \$\$(90 × {5}/{18})\$\$ m/sec = 25 m/sec.

Total distance covered = (120 + 230) m = 350 m.

∴ Required time = \$\$({350} / {25})\$\$sec = 14 sec.

A 160 m long train crosses a 160 m long platform in 16 seconds. Find the speed of the train.

(A) 70 km/hr

(B) 72 km/hr

Ans: B

Distance covered in passing the platform = (160 + 160) m = 320 m.

∴ Speed of train = \$\$({320}/{16})\$\$m/sec

= 20 m/sec = \$\$(20× {18}/{5})\$\$km/hr = 72 km/hr.
