List of Important Common Drugs and their Uses - 1
| Antibiotics | Medicines used to treat infections caused by microorganisms, such as bacteria etc. |
| Analgesics | Medicines used to relieve pain. |
| Antihistamines | Medicines used to fight the histamine reaction of an allergy, by resisting the action of the histamine. |
| Anaesthetics | Drugs that block the sensory nerves, making a person unconscious. These are used during surgeries so that the patient does not feel any pain. |
| Antipyretics | Medicines used to reduce body temperatures. |
| Enema | A fluid which is passed into the rectum for desired bowel movement. |
| Lotion | Medicines used to wash the external body parts in order to cool, soothe or provide antiseptic effect. |
| Narcotics | A drug that is addictive, but reduces pain and changes the mood and behavior of a person. It also induces sleep. |
| Ointment | A semisolid preparation applied externally as a remedy or for soothing an irritation. |
| Paste | Medicine of soft and sticky consistency; applied externally. |
| Suppository | Medicated mass inserted into the rectum to aid bowel movements. |
| Sedatives | Drugs used to induce sleep in a person. |
| Tranquilizers | Depressant drugs that combat anxiety. |
| Vaccines | Medical substance that provides temporary immunization from contagious disease. |
