Question: 1
The monthly income of a person was Rs.13500 and his monthly expenditure was Rs.9000. Next year, his income increased by 14% and his expenditure by 7%. Find the percentage increase in his savings.
(A) 24%
(B) 25%
(C) 28%
(D) 30%
Ans: C
Increased income = 114% of 13500 = Rs. $$({114}/{100} × 13500)$$ = Rs. 15390.
Increased expenditure = 107% of Rs. 9000
= Rs. $$({107}/{100} × 9000)$$ = Rs. 9630.
Increased saving = Rs. (15390 - 9630) = Rs. 5760.
Original savings = Rs. (13500 - 9000) = Rs. 4500.
Increase = Rs. (5760 - 4500) = Rs. 1260.
∴ Increase % in savings = $$({1260} / {4500} × 100)$$% = 28%.
Question: 2
Siva could save 10% of his income. But 2 years later, when his income increased by 20%, he could save the same amount only as before. By how much percentage has his expenditure increased?
(A) $$21{2}/{9}$$%
(B) $$22{2}/{9}$$%
(C) $$23{1}/{3}$$%
(D) $$24{2}/{9}$$%
Ans: B
Let, his income be Rs. 100.
Saving = Rs. 10.
Expenditure = Rs. 90
Increased income = Rs. 120
Increased expenditure = Rs. 110
Increased in expenditure = $${110 - 90} / {90} × 100$$ = $${200} / {9}$$ = $$22{2}/{9}$$%.
Question: 3
In an election, a total of 5,00,000 votes participated. A candidate got 2,55,000 votes which was 60% of the total valid votes. What was the percentage of invalid votes?
(A) 10%
(B) 11%
(C) 12%
(D) 15%
Ans: D
Let the number of valid votes be x.
Then, 60% of x = 255000 ⇒ x = $$({255000 × 100} / {60})$$ = 425000.
Number of invalid votes = (500000 - 425000) = 75000.
∴ Required percentage = $$({75000} /{ 500000} × 100)$$% = 15%.
Question: 4
In a mixture of milk and water, the proportion of water by weight was 75%. If in the 60 gms mixture 15 gm of water was added, what would be the percentage of water?
(A) 80%
(B) 85%
(C) 90%
(D) 100%
Ans: A
Weight of water in 60 gms mixture
= 75% of 60 gm = $$({75}/{100} × 60)$$ gm = 45 gm.
Weight of water in 75 gms mixture = (45 + 15) gm = 60 gm.
∴ Required percentage = $$({60}/{75} × 100)%$$ = 80%.
