Every citizen has certain rights which are guaranteed by our Constitution. They are called fundamental rights.

According to the 42nd Amendment passed in 1976, a set of Ten Fundamental Duties of citizens was included in the Constitution of India. They are

(i) To abide by the Constitution and respect the ideals and institutions.

(ii) To respect National Flag and National Anthem.

(iii) To realize and follow the essential ideals of Non violence, Democracy and Secularism.

(iv) It is the duty of every citizen to preserve the rich heritage of our culture.

(v). To protect the Sovereignty, Unity and integrity of our Nation.

(vi) To safeguard public property.

(vii) To defend our Country even at the cost of our life.

(viii) To protect Natural Resources.

(ix) To avoid Dowry, Gambling and other social evils.

(x). To strive towards excellence in their respective spheres of activity.
