Question: 1

The area of a triangle whose sides are of lengths 3 cm, 4 cm and 5 cm is

(A) 6 cm2

(B) 8 cm2

(C) 10 cm2

(D) 12 cm2

Ans: A

Since 32 + 42 = 52.

So it is a right angled triangle with Base = 3 cm and Height = 4 cm.

∴ Area = $$({1}/{2} × 3 × 4)$$ cm2 = 6 cm2.

Question: 2

A field in the form of a parallelogram has one side 150 metres and its distance from the opposite side is 80 metres. The cost of watering the field at the rate of 50 paise per square metre is

(A) Rs.3500

(B) Rs.4500

(C) Rs.5500

(D) Rs.6000

Ans; D

Area of the field = (Base × Height) = (150 × 80) 2 = 12000 m2.

∴ Cost of watering = Rs.(12000 × 0.50) = Rs.6000.

Question: 3

If a square and a rhombus stand on the same base, then the ratio of the areas of the square and the rhombus is

(A) greater than 1

(B) equal to 1

(C) equal to $${1}/{2}$$

(D) equal to $${1}/{4}$$

Ans: B

A square and a rhombus on the same base are equal in area.

Question: 4

The diameter of a circle is 3.5 cm. What is the circumference of the circle?

(A) 11 cm

(B) 22 cm

(C) 38.5 cm

(D) 45.2 cm

Ans: A

Radius = $${3.5}/{2}$$ cm = $${7}/{4}4$ cm.

∴ Circumference = $$(2 × {22}/{7} × {7}/{4})$$ cm = 11 cm.

Question: 5

The diameter of a cycle wheel is 70 cm. A cyclist takes 30 hours to reach a destination at the speed of 22 km/hr. How many revolutions will the wheel make during this journey?

(A) 1 lakh

(B) 2 lakh

(C) 3 lakh

(D) 4 lakh

Ans: C

Distance covered in 1 revolution = $$(2 × {22}/{7} × 35)$$ cm = 220 cm.

Total distance covered by the wheel = (22 × 30) km = 660 km.

∴ Number of revolutions made by the wheel = $$({660 × 1000 × 100}/{220})$$ = Rs.300000.
